Bluetooth not working on your Windows PC can be incredibly frustrating, especially when you need to connect headphones, a mouse, keyboard, or your phone. And in 2025, we’re still seeing the same issue every single day while helping clients across Waterford, Albany, Clifton Park, and nationwide.

Whether Bluetooth suddenly disappeared from your PC, stopped connecting after a Windows update, or devices keep failing to pair, don’t worry; this guide contains the exact fixes we use during real customer support sessions at MicroSec®.

Why Is Bluetooth Not Working on My PC? (Most Common Reasons)

Out of hundreds of cases we handled this year, these were the top causes: (h3)

  • Windows update corrupted the Bluetooth driver

  • Bluetooth Support Service stopped running

  • Airplane Mode bug blocked all wireless features

  • Hidden/old Bluetooth drivers created conflicts

  • Power management turned off the Bluetooth radio

  • Bluetooth adapter disabled in BIOS on newer laptops

You can fix most of these in minutes. Let’s walk through the steps.

Step-by-Step Fix: Bluetooth Not Working on PC (Tested on 2025 Windows Builds)

1. Restart Bluetooth the Correct Way

This is simple but solves many cases.

Go to:

Settings → Bluetooth & Devices → Turn Bluetooth Off → On

If it still doesn’t work → continue below.

2. Reinstall Bluetooth Drivers (Most Effective Fix)

Driver corruption is the #1 cause.

  1. Press Windows + X → Device Manager

  2. Expand Bluetooth

  3. Right-click your adapter (Intel, Realtek, Qualcomm)

  4. Select Uninstall Device

  5. Restart PC

  6. Windows will auto-install fresh drivers

If it doesn’t:

Download the latest Bluetooth driver from your laptop brand’s website.

3. Enable Bluetooth Support Service

If this service stops, Bluetooth disappears.

  1. Press Windows + R → type: services.msc

  2. Find Bluetooth Support Service

  3. Set Startup type → Automatic

  4. Click Start

Now check Bluetooth again.

4. Turn Off Power Management for Bluetooth

Windows tries to "save battery" but ends up disabling Bluetooth.

  1. Device Manager → Bluetooth

  2. Right-click your adapter → Properties

  3. Power Management tab

  4. Uncheck: “Allow the computer to turn off this device…”

5. Fix the Windows Airplane Mode Bug (2025)

Windows 10/11 still has this glitch.

  1. Go to Settings → Network & Internet

  2. Disable Airplane Mode

  3. Restart PC

  4. Try reconnecting devices

6. Remove “Hidden” Old Drivers (Advanced Fix)

Old drivers conflict with new ones.

  1. In Device Manager → click View → Show Hidden Devices

  2. Expand Bluetooth

  3. Uninstall all greyed-out devices

Restart PC.

7. Check BIOS/UEFI Bluetooth Toggle (New Laptops Only)

Some newer laptops (HP, Lenovo, Dell) let you disable Bluetooth from BIOS.

Restart → Press F2/F10/Del → Wireless → Enable Bluetooth.
